Robert Wells was born in 1885 in Soham Fen (Newmarket Q4-1885 3B:548) son of Elijah and Ann WELLS (née PAMMENT).

1891 census...Aged 5, he was at Tunnel Mill Cottages, River Bank, Soham with his father Elijah WELLS [37] farm labourer born Isleham Fen; his mother Ann [37] born Isleham Fen; brother John [15] farm labourer, born Mildenhall Fen; sisters Eliza [13] born Isleham Fen, Hannah [11] and Mary E [8], both born Mildenhall Fen and Sarah [2] born Soham Fen.

1901 census...Aged 15, farm labourer, he was at Toll House, West Row with his parents (father now superintendent of fen drainage); sisters Sarah, Annie [9] born Soham and Mercy [7] born Mildenhall; brother Elijah [4] born Mildenhall.

1911 census...Aged 25, a hay presser, he was at Toll House (now recorded as River Bank, Mildenhall Fen) with his parents, sister Annie and brother Elijah (cowman for father)

He died at The Staunch, West Row Fen from tuberculosis of the lung and tubercular meningitis. Brother John was the informant.



Enlisted in Newmarket. "Soldiers Effects" records he died "at own home". This was from TB.
